Ehhh. They needed to cast a younger actress or have her act older.

How so?

She looks like she is in her mid 20s because she is played by someone who is. But she acts like a teenager. I guess she is supposed to be 16 in the movie (not that they ever say that) so I don't know why they got an adult to play her.

Yeah as someone who hasn't seen it (yet) I'm always weirded out when I see posts on my dash about memelord Shuri or whatever. It's odd to see jokes about how hip she is unlike the other old fart characters when the actress is the same age I am and I'm by all accounts an out of touch crusty old fart.

Of course, that's a problem with Dawson casting in general.

It is just so weird! MCU has been good about casting age appropriate actrs except for her for some reason.

Because they do that with a lot of teenage characters?

Tom Holland was 20 when they filmed Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Andrew Garfield was 28 when they filmed The Amazing Spider-Man.
Rachel McAdams was 25 when they filmed Mean Girls.

A lot of the time, they do want someone who is at least 18, so they don't have to deal with child labor laws if they don't have to.

He was 18 in CA: Civil War. Pretty age appropriate considering.

The other two are not MCU films.

In Spiderman: Homecoming all the major teenage characters were played by 19-20 year olds. So an age difference of 4-5 years from their characters. Not that bad.

Shuri is 9 years older AND acts way more immature.

ayrt

Well, no, he was 19.

And what other teenage characters have there been in the MCU? I was using those examples for the entertainment industry as a whole.

Also, Letitia Wright is 24.

Peter Parker's best friend and love interest were main teenage characters.

And Laura Harrier (Liz) was 26 when it was filmed.
