I really kind of hate that years of badly written television and asshole ADD show runners means that ANYONE thought these ships were actually up in the air.

Like, I am all for fanon ships (take a look at my icons, seriously) but it was upsetting to see so many people convince themselves so completely that Zuko/Katara had any actual chance of happening on the actual show, particularly in the last few months.

A lot of people are laughing about tearful DA journal entries and crazy youtube video rants, but personally I just find it really sad. :(

I agree, I never saw it. Made no sense. However, I let the shippers do what they want to do. they were the ones that made me paranoid

What really gets me is that I've seen a good portion of the Zuko/Katara 'shippers who said that they cried/hated the finale honestly believe M&B were "leading them on." HOW?

It's just...you know, it's too bad that whenever characters of the opposite sex are shown as becoming friends, it's seen as nothing but a prelude to romance.

(SEE PREVIOUS COMMENT REGARDING BAD TELEVISION -_-)

But really, regardless of the ins and outs of Zuko and Katara's interactions, it's been so blindingly obvious from DAY ONE that Mike and Bryan ship Aang and Katara to a sort of ridiculous extent that it kind of cancels everything else out. It's not my favorite Avatar pairing, but it's at the core of the entire show.

Yeah, seriously. It's like the people who believed Hermione and Harry Potter had a real shot of happening in canon. You could see Katara/Aang happening miles away within the first episodes.

Well, to be fair, in the earlier books -- and before certain interviews -- it was still plausible that the series would end H/Hr after a R/H romance ended badly. But, obviously, it didn't end up being that kind of a story, and the sane H/Hr fans have long since contented themselves with fanon.

Haha, uh, and I will now refrain from making disparaging remarks regarding JKR's abilities as a writer, romantic or otherwise XD

Haha, to me it was just obvious, especially since it's a children's book (or intended as such) and the R/H had been building up for ages that it'd end up that way and not have a bitter ending. But yeah, I'm way content with fanon for both HP and Avatar because it's just fun to play around with without having certain things set in stone.

Am way behind myself, but I do not consider "Aang/Katara happened" a spoiler at all from my position having watched up through the first DoBS episode. To me, the only question about Aang/Katara--from quite early in the show--was "will they make it an obvious romance, or will it stay in hints and subtext," and I think they resolved that question early in S2.

But, contrary to popular fandom opinion, that doesn't mean I hate Zuko/Katara fans and am a snobby elitist lording it over them on my Aang/Katara-loving pedestal. I just think it's an incredible shame that people are letting a romance that was never that huge an element of the story (which was mostly about love and friendship and growing up) ruin the entire awesome show for them.

I really really REALLY wanted for the overlap between "I shipped Zutara" and "I hated the finale" to be a little less pronounced -_-

Because yes, as I said in my own journal earlier, for me the finale was a story in which there was hugging, and everyone saved everyone else! I enjoyed the canon romances personally, but that was sort of beside the point -- the point was GROUP. FUCKING. HUGS. <3 <3 <3

I think the overlap is between "I shipped Zutara" and "I thought Avatar was meant to be a dark and edgy tale of angst, tragedy, and accepting your lonely destiny." Because I know several Zuko/Katara shippers on my friendslist alone who loved the finale despite wrinkling their noses a bit at the shippy scenes...because they didn't seek to twist the entire setup of the show to validate their pairing.

I am really looking forward to catching up and watching the finale. But I've been having trouble getting my DVR to record the episodes I've missed properly, and my eyestrain is too much lately to comfortably watch it on the computer. So uh...I guess I'll use Avatar-watching as a motivation to get new glasses. :>

Also um, if you don't mind I'm going to friend you. You like Jetko and DS9, and have a truly epic KITTY LOCUTUS icon.

Sadly, I only have a regular Locutus icon. I can only hope this is sufficient. ;D

I was happy to see a couple of people comment that they shipped Zutara and would like to have seen it happen, but they liked they finale because it had awesome Zuko/Katara stuff in it. Like, once they sort out their own personal issues (both with each other and alone), they become ninja buddies who work really well together side by side. It's a shame to throw that out because it's not a romance. They don't become a couple, but they do become a pair.
