Neopets has a great lore, it's so cool. I loved it as a kid and still do. Vira! Space Faerie! Illusen and Jhudora! The Altador Plot!

Still bitter they iced me for "selling things for real money" when I hadn't done anything to my account besides Dailies. I lost my favorite Neopet I had since I was like 9 years old.

...wait, didn't they literally introduce a real world currency microtransaction-type thing a few years ago? *They're* selling things for real money. Why would they ice you for that? Isn't that hypocritical?

Technically speaking, if you are selling in-game items for real currency, you are selling somebody else's intellectual property (the artwork of the items, the names, the descriptions) and any game owner has the rights to not authorize that.

Ahem, they don't call it "iced" anymore, or even "frozen". When they shut down your account, they call it "silencing". Trufax.

I loooved Neopets as a kid, but Nickelodeon tanked it when they bought it and it's pretty draconian rules-wise now. You can get banned immediately for things that never used to be a big deal. (Aka, the reason I stopped RPing on Neopets as a teen, haha).

Wasn't silencing only when you were banned from the neoboards and not totally locked out of your account?

Then again, it's been years since I bothered talking on them. They were fun, back in the day.

I also miss Keyquest.

Nope, it's what they call freezing in general now. Or else I'd still be using the account with a million neopoints, haha.

Was keyquest the multiplayer game they jad? I don't think I ever played.

How....militaristic.

& yeah it was the 3D boardgame, where you could buy the plushies and get in-game character pieces.

I still love my Robot Kacheek and Plushie Wocky ones.

I don't play so I'm curious and clueless...what would Neopets fanfiction be about?

There's like a hundred NPCs with various backstories and shit. It's pretty cool.

Forreal! The plotlines they had were some of my favorite things. I remember, once upon a time, reading a big "fanfic" on the Neopian Times that was basically a retelling of the Battle for Meridell plot. Shit was awesome, I wish I could find it again. :(

I still play neopets. *shrug*

(Anonymous) 2018-04-18 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the Times being the main source of fanfic has...issues. You want to find stories about a specific character or plot? Welp, better start clicking through each issue, because the search function does crap-all. Oh, you want to go from chapter 2 to chapter 3? Well, we did link you straight from chapter 1 to 2, but we changed our minds, go back to the archives. And of course everything there has to be rated Y7 at most and fit with established canon...

(Anonymous) 2018-04-18 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't this because, IIRC, Neopets has a strict policy against fanfiction posted in other places than their own website?

Sorry OP, I don't know much about this subject because I feel like Neopets fanfic would be full of OCs and I've never been big on that (which is weird considering I still play neopets...dressing up virtual paper dolls doesn't count as having OCs does it?)
