The wording of the secret (they keep people in fandom at arm's length and have a fandom friend who wants to be closer) suggests to me that they do have a username/email separate from their real name, but that they're afraid to give details about their personal life that fandom friends might be interested in.

It seems to me the wording is the exact opposite; if my name that i use to talk to you fandom people someone is connected with the smut you write, my career is over', suggesting that they use a similar or the same name all over the internet.

Dunno - that's how it reads to me.

I interpreted the name becoming affiliated with a username that has posted smut part as their real name becoming associated with their smut-posting username.

Now all i'm thinking about is smut.
