Brit-pickers are the absolute worst. It was so liberating when I moved out of a Brit-centric fandom to an American one.

I thought Brit-picker (or whatever-country picker) referred to someone the author asked to check their work for cultural mistakes?

Some people get anal about spellings, -ise/ize, -ou/-o, etc, and tell authors to get a britpicker over that. Think of the most obnoxious idea of "get a British beta to make the fic sound British" and that is what britpicking often is. I left HP because it was too exhausting.
