Especially since the concept of 'demisexual' is such ridiculous horseshit.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-19 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Look man, straight kids got to feel oppressed somehow.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-19 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yyyep.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-19 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Can't they just whine about how there's no straight parade and be done with it?

(Anonymous) 2018-04-19 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously.

Not wanting to have casual sex and not fancying everybody you lay eyes on doesn't need a name. It's pretty fuckin' normal.

AYRT

Exactly.

It feels like an invented label for snowflakes. Which, I get, they need to feel special, but if they really wanted to feel special they'd get off tumblr and go out and work in a soup kitchen or help people register to vote or something.

You know, actually getting involved in your community and doing shit about issues.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-19 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
This. Most people don't feel an incredible urge to bone strangers.

Oh, I love it when they give condescending lectures to Captain America about modern viewpoints as if he's an idiot without eyes or ears or reading comprehension.

Now what I wanna read is a fic about a person who's aromantic dating a person who is demisexual (Edit: Oh, wait, that's Fifty Shades of Grey, isn't it, never mind). But don't lecture me in text about it.

I think... weird sexual labels are most common among teens and college kids, who are surrounded by hormonal people who seem to be trying to have as much casual sex as possible and everything is SEX SEX SEX and all they're seeing on tv is people boasting about all the sex they're having. And they don't...realize how much of that is posturing or that the people doing all this, if they really are, aren't always enjoying it as much as they claim (reasons include boredom, competition, just not wanting to go home alone). How much lying and bravado is involved. Their churches are also telling them that everyone is depraved and wants sex all the time.

So they think "there must be something wrong with me that I would rather get to know someone first/I can't be aroused by someone I don't like." Because that's a story we see in modern fiction a lot less often.

They've been led to believe the default is wanting to have indiscriminate sex with people they barely know. Even though it's totally normal to just want one person, and most people don't meet their future SO as a stranger in a bar, and most people in long term sexual relationships make it work by having something in common other than sex.

Now asexuality, that's different. I find it completely believable that someone wouldn't want to have sex, period. But I think people have also added all these *additional* labels because they're afraid to tell someone "no, you can't be in our club".

It's the same with most people claiming the various flavours of nonbinary identities atm. They don't (or don't want to) realize that not fitting 100 % into an arbitrary set of gender stereotypes is the complete norm and doesn't make you something "other".

A lot of teenagers *are* sex obsessed though

(Anonymous) 2018-04-20 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
And then there are teenagers who love sex, who have as much sex as possible with as many people who will have sex with them because they really, really enjoy sex. That was me as a teen. I'm female, btw.

Sure it's normal, too, to want just one person, but then there are lot of teenagers who are sex obsessed. Not because they're told to be or they're bored (what?), but because man, sex is awesome. It's a great way to interact with someone. It feels incredible. It does fantastic things to your brain. And your body tends to reward you for it. Reasons like that.

Demisexual is slut shaming.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-20 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
Is it? Or is it a defensive term used against prude-shamers?

Anyway, prudes and sluts have been picking on each other for ages. ;)
