I liked them.

They made a nice change from the usual War Elephants.

Bring out the Tiny White Mice™!

I thought it was fine

I mean, no less absurd than anything else in the superhero genre

(Anonymous) 2018-04-20 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It was hilarious. And stupid, I give you that. It didn't really detract from the rest of the movie for me though.

I dunno, I thought they were pretty cool. Seems like a pretty reasonable war beast to me--not so ridiculously big like elephants, and sturdier than horses, and I for one would definitely get out of the way if one were charging in my general direction.

I mean it's probably a ridiculous idea, but really no more ridiculous than some of the other animals we've decided to domesticate and selectively breed for hundreds/thousands of years.

However I do agree that the CGI was pretty weak.

Rhinos would be shit animals in battle. Horrible eyesight, for one thing. They would just run ramshackle over everyone no matter whose army they are on.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-20 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Horses do that too - that's what reins are for. :)

(Anonymous) 2018-04-21 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Is anyone riding the rino?

(Anonymous) 2018-04-21 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's pretty much what happened in the movie - they could direct the rhinos where to go but then they just trampled and everyone had to get out of the way. It was a very chaotic battle.

I haven't seen Black Panther yet but... this looks bad. Like really bad. I also hated the war elephants in LOTR.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-20 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I think things like that are awesome.

It was no less ridiculous than a lot of things in these movies and I loved it.

But if it didn't work for you then fair enough.

I thought they were pretty dumb because, like, aren't rhinos endangered? Why are we using them as war beasts? But I heard a little kid in the audience whisper-shout "Rhinos!" when they came on screen so obviously they appealed to the target audience. :D

They appealed to me, too. :)

Rhino population might be fine and dandy in Wakanda. It is, after all, a fictional utopia.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-21 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn’t like them because they came so out of nowhere. They showed the one tribe taking care of the rhinos early on, which I guess was their attempt at foreshadowing, but the leap from caring for rhinos and riding armored CGI rhinos into battle was... too big. Since they didn’t show them fighting with rhinos until that point, I assume the filmmakers were trying to make it a ‘surprise,’ but yikes that was a bad choice.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-21 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it was pretty well telegraphed

I was just confused as to why they wouldn't use hippos.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-22 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Hippos don't do so good out of the water.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-22 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
SA - unless you meant pygmy hippos, but they're not so intimidating and also you run into that whole "endangered species" thing again.
