Not really. Dexter is a sociopath whose foster father (a very good cop) taught him to focus his urge into killing criminals, following the Code of Harry. He's by no means a megalomania and never kills somebody undeserving (unlike Light who eventually kills whoever steps in his vision). He has to be sure the world would be safer without such person or proof of their acts.

At least in season one, no idea of the book or second season.

They have common points, but the characters have their differences that made Dexter more anti-heroic, specially since he realizes he's wrong and he has to do this to survive as Harry said.

No problem! I forgot to add: Dexter got a pretty nasty trauma as a kid as source of his sociopath nature: he was three years old when watched his mother get murdered by a man with a chainsaw and spent days trapped in that place with several inches of blood. He blocked his memories of this, but that pretty muched fucked him up.
