104. AND I SHIIIIIP IT AND I SHIIIIIIIIP IT AND I SHIIIIP IT AND I SHIIIIIIIIIP IT IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII SHIIIIIIIP IT
109. "Punk ass"?
For some reason, I never saw his character as that. Snobby, yes, but "punk ass"? Draco In Leather Pants (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DracoInLeatherPants), indeed.
112. Brace for the tsunami of AHEM WELL ACCORDING TO MY RESEARCH.
Actually, as someone who's in the midst of the book (chapter thirteen), I must say that any bashing on my part will be derived from how poor in quality I think the writing is. I can't speak for anyone but myself. Purple prose, for one thing, belongs in parodies and Harlequins, but ladling adjective after adjective on Edward to describe his sparklenomenon? Not a fan of that. What IS necessary, however, is character analysis, something I think is sorely lacking in the book. Since she's writing in first person, Meyer should have given us a better look into Bella's head--WHY is she in love with Edward, for one thing, and WHY doesn't she care that he is immensely attracted to her blood? Instead, the reader is treated to descriptions of how she cooked dinner for Charlie or quickly completed a paper on Shakespeare's Macbeth. Meyer tells instead of shows, and I'm not the first to have pointed that out. Something like this from the end of Chapter 9:
"And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him."
really deserves a little more explanation.
Her side characters are good, but her main characters are not, and since the story is about them, this is a problem. In the beginning, Edward is a jerk to Bella, and then turns around to immediately befriend her with no explanation. I wouldn't mind that so much had Bella not just accepted it--someone who is supposed to be as smart as Bella (something for which I don't see concrete evidence; you can SAY that you took AP classes, but just throwing that detail out there reminds me too much of Mademoiselle Mary Sue) should have questioned the sudden turn-of-events. That nice romance element you spoke of may seem nice to you, but to me, it reminds me more of a stalker/victim setting where the stalker is madly in love with the stalked. Personally, I think Twilight would have been MUCH better had it gone with the stalker/victim scenario, but it didn't. Sucks for me.
I've only read half the book, and I have every intention of finishing it. Not everyone just hates something because it's mainstream, though I agree with you there--people should dislike something because THEY dislike it and not because hate is en vogue.
120. Meet 112! I'm sure you'll get along nicely.
125. This could be an AboveTheInfluence commercial. "I thought Will Ferrell was funny. Then I stopped smoking pot. *dramatic scene where everyone but the quitter is giggling at Anchorman, followed by the AboveTheInfluence logo*"
137. ... holy fuck. Diane = Dana! EVEN THEIR NAMES SOUND ALIKE!!
141. This is a common fandom dislike.
169. You're in for a rough ride. ;-)
