I mean they could literally make up something to make him immortal if they wanted since it's a fantasy TV show, but I'm expecting this to go down more like the books where they both learn to live with it and cherish all the time they have before Alec dies.
(I mean personally I'd rather have Alec be immortal or Magnus loose his(willingly though, and not have Alec try to take it away like he does in the books), but I'm not holding out hope for either of those options).

Me too. I can't get into couples were one is going to greatly outlive the other.

Just not sure the current season is going to leave that wiggle-room.

Though I can't remember if they ever gave an off-hand comment about that to stop people from pointing it out. Knowing SPN they might've.
But yeah open-ended is fine with me, hell open-ended and Alec like finds a way to make himself immortal but doesn't go yay or nay to the prospect. It's there. It's an option. But we can make up our minds yanno? That might be the best way to go about it.

Basically the jist I got was that Alec angsts over the fact that Magnus will outlive him and he's stupidly jealous over Magnus's past loves as well as any that will come after himself. The dude does get eaten up with a massive amount of insecurity in this, so I won't 100% say he's awful, but still, don't be a dick because your hundreds of years old bf had lovers before. And Camille(Magnus' ex-vampire lover who did a fucking huge number on his head) stirs Alec's insecurities even more by I think(?) making it seem that Magnus will go back to her when Alec's gone(this is a lie because Magnus doesn't love her at all by this point in his life, but Alec isn't listening to logic at this point so it works).
As a result he tries to research ways to take away Magnus' immortality without talking to Magnus about any of it, now he doesn't go through with it and comes to terms with their disparate life-expectancies. But either Magnus finds out, or Alec tells him(can't remember which) and Magnus breaks up with him because... yeah, kind of a dick move to seriously consider doing that to the person you love.
I don't think show!Alec is gonna pull that shit, but who knows how they'll actually resolve it(my bet is an open-ended 'gotta live with it' situation. So not exactly happy, but I can roll with it).

They get back together after that and Alec is sorry for the whole thing, so he admits to his fuck-ups at least.

Swapping their situation ought to fill the angst barrels for a season or two :)

I mean the sheer angst of that is appealing, but I'm also not sure my heart could take it(I say this yet the 218 break-up was one of my favourtie moments because of THE PAIN, that and it all worked out).
