The problem is that to normal people, "love it" is the way you love pizza. It's really good while you're eating it, but you don't really think about pizza when you're not eating it.

To nerds, it's like always thinking about pizza, knowing the history of pizza, and knowing the variations of pizza in every culture and subculture.

This. Lots of people love pizza, but they don't know the history of pizza or flatbreads in general, they don't know how to make their own crust, they've never even made one from scratch. You wouldn't expect them to, though. Fandom can skew one's perspective sometimes.
