145. Um, in Japan, it's a usually a goal of most girls to be stay home mothers with good husbands who work to support their families. In any case, I so agree with you on how Miyako and Ken don't have any chemistry. It also pissed me off how she married the boy she fangirled over when she was 11/12.

146. Baw, cry moar. This is fandom secrets, not fandom secrets for everything but anime. Get over yourself.

Not the OP, but it seems to be turning into only anime when fandoms like Doctor Who and Twilight and whatever popular non-anime fandom is forced to get its own community.

When the hell were Twilight and Doctor Who fandoms forced to get their own secret community? When secrets like that are made they get just as much flak.

Actually out of the 81 secrets today only about 13/14 were anime (I think I accidentally miscounted a video game at one point and don't feel like recounting right now).

Eh, better than Sora/Matt.

I don't think we should frame this as "In Japan." I tend to think that a character as strong as her chose to do what she chose to do and didn't put her life on hold at all - but then again, I could be misremembering the ending.

Not for me...

She never said what she wanted to do, but that's what happens, and yes, typically in Japan because a family there can still survive off of a single wage. Also, feminism didn't or hasn't hit there like it did in the States.

Actually, that's what EXPECTED of them to do, not because they necessarily want to do. Japanese believe that the group is more important than the individual so women who don't necessarily want the domestic life will still do it because they feel obligated to do so. That kind of thinking is why the glass ceiling in Japan is lower in other industrial countries.

It's a lot of work too since you're basically running the household.

Well, at least (just like in the west, really) it's still the ideal being pushed by the media. In real life the situation is improving a bit, especially in the big cities.

It's true that there's a lot of pressure on women in Japan to marry young, start having kids, and generally become happy housewives, and of course this is reflected in fiction, but that doesn't mean that the undercurrent of sexism/stay-in-the-kitchen-ness in a lot of anime is okay or that non-Japanese female fans can't or shouldn't be upset (or at least annoyed) by it.
