For the record - it's not that I think Sephiroth is a shining paragon of all villainhood, because I don't. It's just that Seymour is scraping the bottom of the barrel as far as evil goes. At least he's good at being fucking irrelevent.

162. A lot of people think it's incredibly overrated. I don't think it matters if you like it or not, and you should be free to dislike it, but I do think it should be recognized as groundbreaking (and, given Childsplay and the like, generally a force for good).

re: 181, not the OP, but that's Shin Megami Tensei. Also its spinoffs (Devil Summoner, Digital Devil Saga, Persona). Def. worth checking out.

You assumption is incorrect. I have in fact played both games. And I honestly do not understand why Square is beating VII into the ground. I think VIII, IX, X, and XII are much better in comparison. I just couldn't get into the storyline for VII.

And Cloud's whining annoyed the hell out of me in Advent Children. Which makes me love Tidus even more.

Advent Children is stupid. Who the fuck cares about Advent Children? Nobody that matters, that's who. I still think it's stupid to base your opinion of Cloud on the expansion canon, which is why I assumed you didn't play the game.

Square is beating VII into the ground because it's been a successful business strategy so far.

What do you mean you couldn't get into the storyline? And why, if I may, did you like VIII better? I don't mean to put you on the defensive but that's just baffling to me. I've played very few games that displayed the same kind of overt loathing for their player that VIII did.

Don't get me wrong. I love VII's characters. But VII's storyline just didn't interest me. The characters weren't even an issue. But when it came down to their story, I was just kind of like "Yawn who cares?"

I liked VIII better because I loved the characters AND the storyline. Same with IX and X. The characters were easy to love and the storyline grabbed my attention. Whereas VII failed to do so. Maybe because I played VIII - X before I picked up VII? I dunno.

Honestly, could you have come in here being any more deliciously cunt-tastic, deary? That was just beautiful how you handled it, ripping the OP a new one just because she didn't enjoy your obvious Godsend of a game.

Yeah, I could have. And I have, actually. This doesn't have anything to do with the OP (or anybody) not liking the game. Oh yeah, and I never actually said anything disparaging about the OP - just that s/he didn't play the game and I think s/he's dead wrong. Does swearing just grate on you that fucking much?

I'm not the OP or even the same anon, but believe it or not, some of us HAVE played both games and like X better. VII is not the Bestest Game in the World. It's fun, sure, but there are plenty of games that I would rate as being better both in terms of plot and characters.

Definitely worth checking out. I too grew tired and jaded of RPGs when Squenix rode the train to shitty sequel town. The Shin Megami Tensei series is amazing.
