I say this: Writing is writing.

Maybe what you're writing is what you need to write right now?

Maybe in a year or five you'll feel like working on those old pieces again; maybe not. Either way, it's okay.

"I say this: Writing is writing."

I agree and disagree... I think any writing is better than none at all, for a writer. But there are significant differences between writing fanfiction and original fiction and big issues like world building, characterization, plot, etc. are approached in very different ways in each. And that's not even touching the subject of how widely accepted fanfic tropes aren't necessarily a Thing in original fiction. So in that sense, writing fanfiction isn't the equivalent of writing original fiction.

Hey, if that perspective works for you, great.

Ogh, I feel your pain, OP. :| I really need to get back to a bunch of fics I've been meaning to finish.

I hope you're still posting your fics. It might confirm what you already think or you might be pleasantly surprised.

I feel you, OP. I can't seem to get any of my ideas down to even an outline feed. I'm hoping a new show comes along that captures my muse because nothing I currently watch is doing the trick and the only book fandom that I have any interest in reading/writing is Pride and Prejudice and I can't seem to make myself write anything there.

I ghostwriter this. I'm literally right now working on a fic literally no one will read, but I can't stop writing it.

This may seem like strange advice, and I'm not saying you're looking for advice, but I'm just going to say this for someone who's blocked and maybe bored.

Make a point of getting offline and away from *writing* for a while. Not just not writing, but consciously doing things physically. I suggest you get away from both your writing and others' writing. You can detach enough to judge whether you want to continue, and you can have experiences that directly or indirectly give you more subject matter than pwp.
