I've never heard of this artist, but if they're LGBT-friendly then I'm happy. :) Thank you for the secret, and recommendation.

Janelle Monae is 1. incredibly awesome and 2. an out pansexual woman as of last week, so she's more than just LGBT-friendly.

Also, she manages to excel at all kinds of musical styles, so if you don't like one of her songs, try another. Eventually you will find something you dig.

agree! Aside from her beauty she is immensely talented!

My jam was Cold War from her first(?) album...Just listen to everything.

Yeah, I'm really confused.

LGBT parts of fandom is really bad at dragging celebrities who don't give discourse-approved answers to questions about their sexuality.

I guess this secret was made before the album and all those interviews where she came out were released.

What exactly would 'android-sexual' be code for?

I know the name from seeing it mentioned about her being pansexual (I think?) but that's all I know, I don't know her music.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-01 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Until literally this week when asked about her sexuality the only answer she would give was that she only dated androids. For context, she makes concept, afro futurist albums in which androids represent the oppressed in society.

LOL, submitted this the night before the Rolling Stone interview was published.

Bless your soul anyway, OP. *fist bump*

And I totally agree. Labels aren't for everyone. People need to chill with that. The whole point of being out is being true to who you are, right? Well, what if part of who you are is someone who doesn't want to be pigeonholed to a label? What's wrong with that?

Agree that not everything needs to be spelled out (and not everyone's sexuality or even self identity needs to be dragged out for examination, celebrity or not), but hey, never heard of her before and good on her for going into detail. Songs seem interesting so far, thanks for the rec.
