Wait, why would they make a canonically gay couple be voiced by brothers? Did the creators not think of how weird that is?

It's the other way around. This is from a DnD podcast where DnD is being played by three brothers and their dad. One of the characters (Taako) is a PC played by one brother, the other is an NPC played by the DM/another brother. They weren't originally written as being canonically gay, but people got really into it, so they decided to roll with it.

This. And I think they also did it to avoid a Dumbledore situation, where Taako is, like, totes gay, but also never in a relationship ever and certainly not explicitly open about it.

FWIW, they did a really great job on the show of making it obviously canonical without it getting super weird and then offering it up to the fandom to flesh out. Besides, I mean, it's family D&D, unless you outright ban romance/flirting/seduction, at some point there's gonna be some awkward DM Brother/Son-on-PC Brother/Father flirting. Better handsome grim reapers and elf wizards than bad dwarven clerics and a writing mass of vines.
