151. I have no idea who that is. I just wanted to say I'm sorry for your awful experiences and very understandable loss of faith. My own Goddess regularly kicks the crap out of me, but at least I expect and accept that. (It's complicated.) Recently I learned some things about human nature which shook my faith in everything, the whole universe, to the core. That has never happened before. I bounced back quickly but I hope I never feel that way again. I'm rambling. Sorry. Your sekrit poked me in the heart. Be well.

I'm gonna write this up properly in my LJ next week... I was reading about gossip and how it's "social glue" for humans - not just the fluffy, harmless kind of gossip, but the spiteful, damaging kind as well. People bond by chatting about their friends' doings, celebrities, and so on, but also group themselves into tribes by choosing who to revile and exclude. I'd also been reading some stuff about how human sentience is probably a byproduct of our complex social interaction. So suddenly, this precious and amazing thing - our self-aware mind - and our best characteristic as a species - our ability to cooperate - looked as though they were inextricably linked to petty, childish viciousness. The ultimate product of the entire beautiful universe, the core of human nature, wasn't even something as grand as Evil; it was a bunch of monkeys flinging their own turds.
