I've no idea which brand of Christianity the voice actor guy follows, but there are plenty of churches which still preach and do hateful and profoundly damaging things.

I don't really imagine Vic Whatsit says anything remotely as batshit as Tom Cruise - it's more that a certain number of people are being all "omg, how dare you criticize him for speaking out about his religion", when I doubt they'd say the same thing if someone said they wanted to stand up and shout anti-Scientology things in front of someone like Cruise.

I guess when I read that secret I mostly felt bad for someone who's obviously in pain, so I can understand her wish to vent her anger. A lot of people are reacting as if she'd actually done what her secret says she'd love to do. I don't think just making a secret venting anger, from someone obviously in pain, really deserves the harsh level of response it's had.

(Disclaimer: I have no idea what Vic actually says about religion, and am not suggesting I think she should actually stand up and yell at him, heh.)

Plenty of churches, but none that are officially sanctioned by its governing body. Like, if I were a Baptist and the Baptist church down the street is money laundering or shooting out the tires of cars outside a gay bar, and someone told me I was horrible for being a Baptist because zomg those OTHER Baptists down the street are doing shitty things, I'd be pissed because no, those are not my people or what the faith is about, eff you.
Scientology has ONE governing body and ONE official position, there's no little offshoots of the community that are disassociated with what the main people running the show do. Most people in the Church are brainwashed/confused/ignorant and shouldn't be yelled at anyway - Tom Cruise is high up enough in the CoS that he should know what's going on and therefore yes, his promotion of a dangerous cult should in fact be told to STFU.
And even if you want to let his promotion of Scientology stand, he is still giving out dangerous medical advice that could hurt mentally ill people. If the VA were telling people that they shouldn't go to doctors and let Christ heal them, yes, I'd absolutely tell him to shut his damn mouth too.
