119. I agree that in the movie version, Nobu/Sayuri made so much sense. He was also pretty good-looking, scars and all (not how I pictured him at all, but I liked him, and I was really thrilled with Watanabe as the Chairman).
I feel much differently about the book. I’ve read it so many times, and at the beginning I wanted her to see Nobu for the worthy man he was, and look past the Chairman. (Regardless of how things turned out relationship-wise, I didn’t like the ending.) But the last time I reread it, Nobu came off as much more selfish and controlling than he’d seemed before. My sight may have been colored by the movie before, but now I don’t revere Nobu in the same way.
At the same time, I adore them both and I wish they could have been allowed to continue the friendship aspect of their relationship.
120. Foreign relations? Translation services? Teaching? I think those could be reasons.
(As for me, I’m minoring in Japanese Language for teaching purposes and I’m def still part-weeaboo >.> I did not enjoy Gamers when I was in Japan, though. My friends did. That’s when I realized my weeabooity was draining out.)
