The characters who are alive at the end of the movie are probably in more real long-term danger than the ones who "died"

Based on contracts, most certainly.

Yuuuup.

I expect all of the dusted characters to come back, maybe Vision and Gamora because they're kind of linch-pin Stone people, but all the surviving Avengers are not safe in part 2, except for some of the supporting cast.

Virtual hug, if you want, but I doubt everyone's gone.

All of the deaths and, um, un-existings were pretty wrenching in the movie, though, and if even a quarter of them hold, it will still be bad.

Possible Comic Spoilers?

(Anonymous) 2018-05-04 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It's been many years since I read them and I can't even recall if it happened in the Infinity War itself or some other story where they fight against Thanos, but I'm pretty sure at least one of them ended with someone using the gauntlet to undo all the deaths and destruction caused by Thanos. I'm willing to bet the MCU will do something similar.

Yeah, I haven't read the comics, but my comics nerd colleague told me pretty much exactly that happened and he suspects the movies are going to do the same.

Cap is the only character I seriously care about at this point. Also Bucky to a lesser degree, primarily because a) he's important to Cap and b) I find his story more independently interesting than most of the other characters' stories. I haven't seen Infinity War but from what I've heard both of them are still alive at the end, which is all that really matters to me in this franchise at this point.

Yeah. It's comics. Everyone taken in the last big cull is coming back

(Anonymous) 2018-05-05 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
None of us have seen it yet, but going by the spoilers we've seen I'm the only one in my household whose favourite isn't dead (yet). Knowing my luck, this is setting me up for tragedy in Part II.

If they died during the dust, they'll come back. I'm pretty sure. If they died before the dust...well let's just say I'll be hard pressed to watch any other Thor movies.

I'd miss Loki's shit-stirring, to be sure, but damn if I wouldn't be there opening day for The Cosmic Adventures of Lightning Pirate Angel, featuring Rabbit and Tree.

Thor and the sweet rabbit got me through SO much of the pain in that movie! I need so much more of them together in the future

I still can't believe one of the most heartfelt moments of the movie came from Thor and Rocket Raccoon, of all people.
lil_lost_kitten: Greed from Fullmetal Alchemist (FMA - Multicoloured Greed)

THIS! I felt I was holding myself together pretty well for the first part of the film. I'd steeled myself for shit to go down, but I just couldn't deal with Thor being so broken - it was the watershed moment that brought on buckets of tears that lasted the rest of the movie.
It's just too heartbreaking to see the eternal optimist lose all hope... it actually hit me harder than Loki's actual death. Loki going out in a futile blaze of glory seemed oddly right, whilst Thor trying to justify continuing when he's essentially lost everything is... just... guh.

I would so watch that but you're also making me lament not getting the chance for Rocket and Loki to have a snark-off. At the same time Thor doesn't know who to step-in and defend because he genuinely loves his brother but also has nothing but respect for Rocket after their heart to heart (and Rocket allowing him to get away with "sweet rabbit" constantly.)

Some of the characters who got dusted have movies lined up.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-05 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Not at all. Only one, maybe two of the deaths were actually sad in any way, everyone else just kind of sighed and faded into nothingness. That was literally the last two minutes anyway, the rest of it was really fun fight scenes and intriguing personality clashes and a shitload of jokes. Whether it was Deadpool, Whedon, or Waititi's influence, they upped the comedy tremendously.
