You do realize Tony's actually dealt with people causing massive damage while targeting him for unhinged revenge plots, right? That was the entire plot of IM2, and what kicked off the plot of Avengers 2. His reaction to Bucky in CW was inarguably fucked up, but he wasn't exactly dishing out anything he hadn't had a taste of. He didn't need Quill Leroy Jenkins-ing after Thanos to experience the other side of it.

So you're saying despite having previous experience with dangerous revenge plots, he easily fell for yet another revenge plot at the end of CW and endangered people? Like, he didn't learn anything? Ah, okay, I was only mad that he fell for such an obvious plot (Zemo couldn't have telegraphed it any more clearly), but your insight has added another layer of icing to this cake of suck and fail. Ta!

And I would argue that the situation with Quill was unique... because Tony was suddenly in Steve's shoes, having to talk down the murderous lunatic about to wreck everyone's shit. In previous situations he was "on the other side" in the sense that he was the Bucky or the Thanos. So this one is that much sweeter.
