Tbh I think both instances were frustrating.

Like I 100% get Quill's non-logical reaction, because I too would fight Thanos for Gamora, but time and place dude.

I mean, of course it was bad, it had to be like that for the movie to work, but you could argue that in Quill's learning pattern, lashing out in indignant rage at a villain who murdered his loved one has been known to work out alright before.
