I think some of it might have to do with the fact that the first season was (is?) not commercially available in the US. I mean, you can get it if you get a different region code player or if you want to torrent it but the official marketing doesn't treat the first season like the first season. It's a prequel and you had to catch it when it was being aired.

I mean, the first season is why I'm interested in it but I think it's enough of a barrier to entry that some fans don't want to go through.
