I don't think people are saying "not a children's book" to mean "inappropriate for children." More that it seems to be classified as a general fiction book (and there's nothing wrong with children reading general fiction) rather than one aimed primarily at children.

So some people are saying, it's for anyone, including but not limited to children, and you're saying it's for children, and adults can reread it but it's mostly for children. That isn't the same as arguing over whether or not children are "ready" to read it.
