Okay, so in the Hoth battle scene, Luke’s gunner’s name is Dak, but as a little kid, I thought Luke was calling him “Dad.” I remember thinking that this must be some kind of adoptive relationship* and wondered why we weren’t getting any explanation of how this came about between movies and also why Luke didn’t seem more upset when “Dad” dies.

*I either dismissed the idea that this was somehow Luke’s long-lost real father or I already knew Darth Vader was his father – I’m too young to have seen this in theaters (the first time around) but might have seen it on TV before going to see Jedi, maybe? I have no idea what the hell order I watched these in, I was so young, and we didn’t have the movies on VHS until later in the decade.

Oh dear! I'm Australian and was about 7 at the time, so I immediately caught on that he was called "Dak", because to dack someone means to pull their pants down. It was super hilarious to us that a guy was called Dak!
