Re: Is it just me? (Mother's Day rant)

Well, going by what I've seen on the internet, it's basically a facepunch to anyone who:

1) Lost a mom
2) Had a shitty/abusive/neglectful mom
3) Lost a child

Which makes up a lot of folks in the world. Personally, I had the misfortune of being born to someone who never wanted to be a mother, so to me (basically, to her, babies are cute until they require actual care), this holiday is meaningless. However, I recognize that some people had good relationships with their mothers, so I just kind of tune out the lame ads and do my own thing.

So this is kind of random, but the founder of Mother's Day, Anna Jarvis, thoroughly despised what the holiday had become. She meant for it to be a holiday for someone to celebrate the mother in their life, but pretty much went after anyone who tried to cash in on it (buy your mom flowers/candy/jewelry/etc!). I do wonder how she'd feel about anyone for whom the holiday was tainted (from the reasons I listed above), or anyone who had more than one important motherly figure in their life.
