I appreciate that the movie one looks gross. He's supposed to look like he's been beat to shit and back and lot of movies are too busy making sure their characters look pretty to do that justice. They weren't afraid to let Tobey be ugly (the cry scene springs to mind). I appreciate that in my movies.

I think you're confusing 'attractive' with 'looks good'. They're often the same thing but not always. In this case its probably less about him looking good to the OP and more the fact that him beaten to hell and vulnerable and still standing that's attractive.
