Eh, that's a pretty outdated view of what furries are. A fursona is basically a fictional character version of yourself. The same as "what kind of elf would you be if you were an elf"

You're talking about fursuiters which is a small subsection of furries overall. Like erotic cosplayers vs "anime fan"

Not a furry btw, but accuracy is accuracy

I know that fursuiters aren't the entirety of furry fandom. I phrased that wrong. Sorry.

But the thing is, I don't actually care about the specific ways in which furry fandom turns it into something sexual. It doesn't actually make a huge difference to me whether it's fursuits, or pornographic art, or just imagining myself as a person who looks like an animal fucking another person who looks as an animal. The whole idea is bad to me. I don't want any part of it.

Furry "fandom" is not the same as a fandom for a book or movie or TV show.

"Harry Potter fandom" is a group of people who are fans of a specific canon. Furry "fandom" is a bunch of people drawing buff foxes. And furries are not just people who, as the anon I was referring to claimed, "just wanna watch animal cartoons." By that definition everyone who likes Disney movies and has a favorite animal is a furry.

Not to mention that if you get into definitions of fandom like (just to use examples from this thread) "fans of Harry Potter slash" or "fans of elf LARPing" those fans absolutely are negatively stereotyped in ways similar to the ways that furries are negatively stereotyped.

There are people who think all fanfic is porn because they've only ever heard of or seen is weird porn fanfic, so I figure it's one of those types.

Pf well that's cool, sure, but a bunch of people going "lol my fursona would be a duck/my elfsona would be a dark elf/my fairysona would be named Glitterwing Gumdrop" is hardly doing any of those things you mentioned. Nor is it sexual or even particularly serious

No! That's the thing! I don't know why people are taking this thread to be full of bona fide furries for the exact same reason. You can go "lol my fursona would be a duck" to this question in GC without being a furry or taking it seriously or making it sexual
