Take melatonin and benadryl. Get up and read for a while if I really can't sleep.

I know it's not a good idea but, alcohol. A little booze at least calms the anxiety and flighty mind which doesn't help me sleep. I also take melatonin sometimes.

When i get it - get a drink, get up and read for a little. Make sure my bedroom is cool and my bed comfy. Lay down and think of something tedious, like what i would salvage for my ideal zombie-apocalypse lair.

If that doesn't work - watch Netflix or Hulu until I doze off in bed with my laptop (only works if you have a laptop, sadly).

Sonata. The bad thing is that it doesn't keep me asleep. So sometimes I wake up an hour or two before I have to get up and now I'm just groggy along with being tired. And I can't take another one because they suggest you have at least four hours of sleep after taking it.

Sleep hygiene. "The Sleep Solution" by Ball and Hough is the best $20 I ever spent. I started off just dipping into it, then worked through the 3-week programme methodically. I was seeing benefits by the third night.

I cut out caffeine entirely. This was a big deal but I managed it. Also sugar as far as possible.

Utilise the 90-minute sleep cycle. Count back in cycles from your preferred wake-up time. When you feel extra-sleepy around a bedtime that you've calculated, go straight to bed - you get a window of about 10 minutes when it should be easier to fall asleep.

Breathable sheets - about 300-count, cotton if possible.

Switch off screens at least an hour before bedtime (I am bad at this, heh.) Use f.lux to cut down on blue light emission during the evening. https://justgetflux.com/

If none of this helps, get a sleep test if possible. They wire you up and you get a printout in the morning, telling you what's up. Most sleep disorders can be diagnosed by this, and then treatment is a lot easier.
