The only two white female comedians Reddit really hates are Amy Schumer and that moron from girls.

And rightfully so.

I agree, OP, society does give love and respect so much more easily to men than women. I can only hope that if I find a woman comedian maybe I can share them on social media too, and maybe give them some exposure too. Little by little, maybe it might help.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-17 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
...there are many women comedians.

I'm trying to remember a specific comedy routine by a lady with a short haircut and short sleeve button down shirt that was absolutely hilarious. The routine was about wine and how bold it was for a certain famous celebrity chef to be an excellent and wonderful chef while being constantly being high on cocaine as one tended to be back then.

There are plenty of lady comedians, but I'm searching for that single comedian because that's the one I want to share, I should specify.

Tig Notaro?

Nah, I think this person was Australian, but thank you for the suggestion. :)

I really enjoyed The Comeback Kid special. Much better. This one was weirdly flat, although I enjoyed the horse in a hospital bit.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-17 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I preferred the comeback kid. I think the ending in that one was much stronger than the ending in the newer routine??

(Anonymous) 2018-05-17 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the main reason i like his comedy is the Danganronpa standup edits on youtube

(Anonymous) 2018-05-17 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I do think that John Mulaney is overrated and would be extremely hated if he was a woman

That's all I have to say about that

(Anonymous) 2018-05-17 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not just reddit. Tumblr has a huge bone for him, too.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-17 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Twitter too.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-17 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps because he is funny?

(Anonymous) 2018-05-17 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
He's a very talented comedian. But this is the Internet we're talking about - it's really difficult and rare for something to be that popular across the board, and even when it happens, it usually doesn't last that long before people turn on him or get annoyed at the hype. Just the way the Internet works.

I'm so fucking sick of him and the endless posts on tumblr about him.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-18 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
You think the sole reason that John Mulaney is popular is because he's a man?

(Anonymous) 2018-05-18 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
That's demonstrably not what OP said. What they said is that, if John Mulaney was a woman, there would be threads on Reddit hating on her.

Which implies that being a woman is a significant reason that people on Reddit hate popular comedians - but doesn't imply anything at all about what makes comedians popular in the first place.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-18 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
This post implies:
John Mulaney is a man => Reddit does not hate on him.
And posits:
If John Mulaney were the same but a woman => Reddit would hate him.
Ergo what keeps Reddit from hating John Mulaney is his being a man.

AYRT

Yes, that is certainly what my post says. It also assumes that popularity and hatedness-on-Reddit are distinct qualities.

I'm so over the Internet creaming themselves as if he's some kinda feminist icon because he loves his wife. Like congrats on doing the bare minimum.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-18 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
His stand up is funny, but...feminist? I don't see it, myself. Unless people are so desperate for allies that not being explicitly misogynistic = feminist now.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-19 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
i have extremely mixed feelings on him. i generally find him funny but every special of his will have a joke that bothers me (new in town had a pretty misogynistic bit about women not being able to get along; the comeback kid had a bit where he made shit up about back to the future to make the joke work, and his most recent special had a lot of anti-semetic material) that no one seems to want to call him out on. meanwhile ali wong also released a special recently that a lot of people made posts about saying how problematic some of her bits were (they weren't wrong, but i didn't see nearly as many about mulaney's specials).
