they are the top global superpower in terms of economy and military,

Lol no, that's China. And how many Chinese people do you think can name the US president compared to how many US people can name the Chinese president? Plus, good US colleges are really good, especially for postgrad stuff, but that's a very small percentage of the US population. For undergrad learning, US students are generally considered about 2 years behind anyone else, which is why you have so much general education. The US entertainment industry is huge and aggressively exported - I don't know about AYRT but I don't blame people in the US for not watching non-US shows, but I do blame people in the US for thinking this is just some natural state of affairs because the US is so amaaaaaazing.

You don't sound like you know very much about China at all, which makes you a poor spokesperson for this conversation on the merits of globalization.

lmao I'm studying China professionally, and lol if you think mainlanders and aunties over there are paragons of global awareness. Maybe the occasional university student might know something, but anyone who hasn't breathed in the smog-laden air or experienced how openly a whole crowd of mainlanders will just plain stare at a foreigner won't understand. 差不多 lol.

https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3790448&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=1 Full of anecdotal (and hilarious) stories and photos from expats so the POV is going to be courser than you'd expect, but the jist of it is China, and by extension Chinese education, may not be as glorious as you would like.

Ew, how did one of you get in here?

(Anonymous) 2018-05-18 10:36 am (UTC)(link)
Suuuure you are. Which is why you dragged China, a country whose government has a vested and historical interest in suppressing freedom of information, into a discussion about the United States and cultural imperialism. As if it's never even come up in the course of your 'professional education' that while both countries' average citizen might be less than worldly, the respective causes for their ignorance might just be vastly different. See, it's not that I think Chinese citizens are globally aware, it's just that you opened with a categorically incorrect statement and spiraled from there into a typical, eyeroll-worthy 'What about China?' non sequitur, as expected of someone whose 'education' definitely came from goon posts. Go posture somewhere else.

Lol no, that's China

This is just like... objectively not true. It will probably become true in the future but it is not at all the case right now.
