Wow, it is EXACTLY the opposite for me. In the books he's subtle as hell, polite and affable towards everyone (and in a Tyrion chapter when he was investigating LF it went into detail about how he came from a poor family so he started out "beneath" everyone in King's Landing, so even as he rose through the ranks and made himself more and more important, nobody considered him a threat) and you can SEE how that guy was quietly plotting and biding his time and it worked. But the way Gillen plays him, I don't see how anyone could ever think that guy was trustworthy. He's just a step down from twirling his moustache with a sneer.
