What's funny? I ship Zutara, and I had no clue how STUPID some of the shippers were getting until I saw the wank report. Seriously, fandom, what the heck. We're not all that insane, I swear.

(But then, I also ship Suki/Sokka/Toph, so I think I'm a bit weird.)

You know, when I used to pair Zuko and Katara in my brain, I thought "lulz what a crack ship" and figured it'd be a fringe pairing. Then I found this mass of fans running around hoping it'll be canon and then berating the creators when it wasn't canon.

I haven't come to hate the pairing yet, but I must say it makes me less than willing to publically state I enjoy pairing them.

That's about what I thought at first, too. Crackship, hoy. Then they actually started throwing in bits and pieces of fanservice here and there and I realized hey, I could make this work in fanfic. Not easily, per se, but it could be a serious pairing. Bittersweet, but serious. (And yet the ubercracky fics still come out to be my favorites, even now. XD) Even so, I actually breathed a HUGE sigh of relief when it was proven once and for all to be noncanon. I like Zutara just where it is--in the hands of the fandom, Especially here on LJ. The katara_zuko LJ comm is pretty sane, I've found, if you want an example of some decent Zutara fanstuff.

I'd been a little wary to openly display my shipping preference too, at least over on dA, but then I realized that what would be the point? I write Zutarafic because I like it. Being afraid to contribute it to the fandom just makes the percentage of batshit shippers look bigger than it is. The sane fans will keep talking about how brilliant the finale was and keep writing and drawing their noncanon ship anyway, and the crazy ones will jump ship eventually and go play with another fandom. It's the Way Of The Internet. :D
