The budget is $10,000. What do you do?

New bathroom. My current one is still nice, but starts looking old.

The plumbing if it means I can get halfway decent water pressure. Otherwise, the kitchen.

I am having trouble understanding this post.

When you buy a house, the buyer usually fronts a certain percentage for either a lower interest rate (reducing the total cost of the house) or a larger loan (buy a bigger house.)

But where does the kitty come in?

Probably put down rent on an apartment in a city for the rest of the year.

Otherwise, give my bathroom a goddamn window. Things grow in there because there's not enough ventilation and there's no sunlight. It's so gross.

My yard. I'd love a drought-resistant landscaped yard (lives in northern California).

Total bathroom renovation. Mine is functional, but everything in it is dated and not in the best shape.

Kitchen, omg the kitchen. Even just to get a new sink and redo the cupboards so they're not flaking paint into my pots and pans.

Could two small bathrooms that share a wall count as one area? Because if they do, i'd make over both those.
Otherwise - the kitchen.

nothing. I hate renovations. I mean nothing stops me from doing it now. If I had to I'd look into new sofa or armchair I guess, and get a nice wallpaper for the bedroom.

I just wish my apt was bigger. and that my neighbor's baby would stop screaming sometime today....

Make a soundproof room so I can record stuff (or more sound absorbent, depending on how much 10 grand can buy).

every room in our house would take maybe $2K to actually fix/improve. I like our house. Someday the carpets will need replacing and we'll need new appliances in the kitchen but nothing that would cost ten grand.

but if you're gonna give me 10k then I'mma actually finish the unfinished basement.

In my current rental apartment, I would replace the weird, old flooring in the kitchen, with the seam down the middle covered with a metal strip that catches things when I try to sweep or mop. Then I would get an outlet wired to a particular corner and either do a small wall-mount tv or a small corner cupboard I can sit a tv on so I can watch the news while cooking or doing dishes. Finally, I would get a rectangular table - more efficient use of space than the round one - and 4 chairs. If there's money left, I might replace the counter, sink, and backsplash with something more up-to-date but the current stuff functions fine and isn't a big eyesore, and there's a limit to how much I care about that kind of cosmetic stuff in a rental.

Tossup between front yard and kitchen. The front yard is a weed jungle and the kitchen needs new everything except cabinets.

That'a weird. Usually cabinets are the first to go.

The cabinets are the newest part of the kitchen. I literally inheirited the refrigerator from my grandparents, the sink is cheap fiberglass that stains when you look at it, the stove hasn’t worked in years...
