You're certainly not alone in your predicament (I mostly consume smutty fic). I'm just always afraid it is/will become an addiction or it will ruin actual sex for me. :/ I try to take a break from it, stay away from AO3, or anything related to the fandoms I'm reading smut for...and it tends to work. I calm down (not always initially). I read fluff. kidfic. Actual books, lol. I try to keep my mind off it by doing things or engaging with people. It's strange to deal with, especially since there's not anyone irl I'd talk to about this. The fact that I'm able to stop, however, take a break, as it were, generally makes me feel like it's not as bad as I think it is/I have control over it. I hope I'm right.
