What is Puck of Pook's Hill?

It’s another one of Kipling’s books - a short story anthology for children. It’s about these two kids living in the English countryside who meet Puck the fairy and he teaches them about the history of England by summoning various figures from the past, like a Roman Centurion or a knight from the Norman conquest. There’s definitely some parts that haven’t aged well but it’s still charming IMO.

Ah. I've only read the Jungle Book and the Eyes of Asia.

I’d also recommend The Man Who Would Be King. Again, hasn’t aged well but damn gripping. If you want actually dark Kipling check it out.

You’re welcome! I like Kipling and it’s so annoying how people just ignore everything else he’s written apart from Jungle Book.

I haven't seen Time Bandits so I can't say. Here's a link to it on Project Gutenberg if you want to check it out: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/15976/15976-h/15976-h.htm

it's because 'talking animals' and 'realistic' don't go together at all and never will. it works well for a cartoony style of animation but otherwise it would look better to go with a telepathic type communication or at least try to avoid forcing an animal's face to move like a human's.

the best example i've seen of animals talking like humans while looking realistic is Princess Mononoke.
