honest question: is there some property rights reason she couldn't have been copycat in this universe? or other reason it would have adapted really poorly? because 'oh no we can't give her a bigger role bc she's a normie now' is even less of an excuse if changing her from a costumed/powered fighter into a civilian was an active creative decision by the movie team. And even if copycat didn't work they could give her some other ability or weapon??? idk, they're writers, it's literally their job to be creative.

otoh being a live source of angst can still be stereotypical in some ways (Big Damsel Rescue Scene, etc) but I can definitely see how it would effect people pretty differently from getting killed for angst.

Nope. Copycat is a mutant and therefore owned by Fox. If she wasn't they couldn't have even used the name Vanessa Sinclair. She wouldn't even have to be a superhero or anything - that power would work perfectly well for sex work.
