Yes, the pattern is a problem. However, not every individual piece of media that uses is, is a problem or bad. In this case the death was well done and handled really well too. The movie wasn't about Deadpool's crazy rampage of revenge. He got that done in about two minutes. The movie was about him grieving and handling his loss, and also protecting a kid on the way to realizing that he does actually have other people who kind of maybe like him around him.

I never said every piece of media that used it was bad, and I'm still excited to see DP2, I think it's probably pretty good! But I really hate the false equivalency of anon I replied to saying 'oh but it's always going to be the Love Interest' implying that the trope isn't heavily gendered.

And I think a whole movie about Deadpool's grief is still where the really important thing about female suffering is a man's feelings. And that's kind of unfortunate to see over and over again even if it is a really good story about grief.
