what don't you get? writing horror is hard.

lots of fic writers are just good enough to write a lot of things - smut, fluff, friendships, dialogue, action, fight scenes, plot, pwp - but most of us are not good enough to write all of them well. horror, in terms of writing, needs a certain level of skill with description and pacing to pull off, it's not like movies which rely on visuals and music cues to enhance the atmosphere and impart a sense of fear or unease in the viewer.

unless by horror you mean torture porn and I guess people just aren't comfortable writing gore as much as drawing it.

@ movies and visual relaliance: exactly - the written word leaves itself at a lot of disadvantage because of this. this isnt to say it can't be done, but you have to work a lot harder to get the same result, and because it can be reread more readily and immediately than a movie or show can be replayed (at least at first), it needs to stand up to a lot more scrutiny

Yeah, I think this nails it. In a lot of horror films, so much of it is visual + scary sounds and music. That's not to say you can't achieve that in the written medium obviously, but it's more of a challenge and not everyone feels up to doing that.
