Well sure, like what you like, but that's not what OP is objecting to - OP is objecting specifically to the fact that their MIL tends to go overboard with the gushing about hot young guys to point of feeling uncomfortable about it. If a 50 year old man went on and on about how hot teenage girls or college girls were in front of someone who was obviously creeped out by it, would you be on his side?

These guys are 30-year-old celebrities, not high school or college girls.

Not to mention that it just doesn't work in the reverse and you know it. Men's sexuality is perceived as being creepy while women's is perceived as being cute. You want to perceive women's as being creepy too, okay, fine, but you need to start young. Any 20-year-old girl who's a little too interested in One Direction is a fucking creep. Yeah?

They're in their 30s now, yes. Back in their heydey, they were in their early to late 20s. If OP's MIL was perving over RPatz in his Twilight days, that's fine. But to the point of making your younger relatives uncomfortable? Not okay.

Well, no. That's not even an adequate analogy, and I think you know it.

Ok, OP doesn't call the mom creepy. She calls the guys creepy douches. And they look like it.

And if you're growing up in a household where you can directly relate your mom's shitty boyfriends and the guys she fangirls over, I think that's a pretty major deal.

OK grew up in the mother in law's house? Where do you get that?

I had a little sympathy for OP right up until they called their mother in law "A pathetic piece of shit." Now I am all in on the mother in law's side.

It's OP's MIL, so obviously the person OP is married to could've grown up in an environment like that. Do you see why that might upset someone? Having the person you love subjected to their mother's creepy douche boyfriends and then seeing their mother fangirl over creepy douches in the media?

Haven't heard from OP's spouse so I am not going to project nearly as far as you are. Or all we know the MiL's child thinks the gushing is cute. And possibly shares Mom's attraction to asshole, judging by the time of this secret.

You truly think there's a good chance that someone who's been subjected to their parent's bad relationship choices will think that it's cute to see their parent gush over people/characters who are similar to those bad relationship choices? Huh, interesting. I don't think this is very likely, myself.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-24 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
I repeat, we are only seeing OP's interpretation here. Not the spouse's. It is entirely possible the mother in law is less pathetic and the OP is more of an asshole than OP thinks.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-24 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Mm, yes, that's possible. I know which way I'm betting, though.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-24 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
It's a lot more likely that OP's a prissy asshole who gets a cockroach up her butt at the thought of anyone over the age of 30 having a libido, which is incredibly common in fandom.

Especially in Twilight fandom/hatedom.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-24 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly.

wait, where the fuck did this come from
