I can't speak for other people or fandom at large, but when I write fic for any fandom it's because I want something different from what the canon gave me.

If canon is a comedy I want angsty fic, if it's romance I want gen fic, if it's horror I want comedy, etc.

So, you know, the fact that canon offers horror doesn't necessarily mean you will find it in the fanfiction.
