How open are you about your identity online?

(Anonymous) 2018-05-23 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you use your real name? Tell people your age or gender?

Hell no. Sometimes, if it's relevant.

Not my real name. My age (29), gender (f), and general location (Oklahoma), yes.

Nooooooooope.

If we're close friends, and talking in a non-public setting, I'm willing to tell you

but otherwise, no, always pseudonymous

Nah and lie about it unanon.

I never tell people my real name (remember back when adults would say telling strangers on the internet your name was a good way to get kidnapped? Good times), but sometimes age and vague location.

I'm pretty open about my gender, but as for other personal info, the most I'll give is my general age bracket and country of origin. Sometimes, in very specific situations, I'll be willing to share my first name.

I go by an online nickname, and I'm open about my age because I don't want kids to talk to me. I only talk about other things if it's relevant to the conversation.

a few good friends online know my real name. I'm cis female and live in the SF bay area.

Name and gender.

Hell, depending on the environment (private forums), I'll probably tell you the city I live in. I know I've done so on here (even if it's not private, I don't care at all).

I don't give out my real name, I ball-park my age, my gender depends on where I am online(in fandom: sure. Online games: fuck no. Reddit: probably, depends on the thread). I don't mind sharing which country I live in but I won't get more specific than that.

So not very open, lol.

the only people who get to know my real name and location are people who are buying something from me. then, they kind of legally need that to pay me and have their shit shipped.

other than that it's 10000% pseudonyms, and I only discuss personal things like age, identity, etc anon or with people who are on my friends-locked lists. I don't willy-nilly add people I don't know, either. f-locked means locked, yo.

Never use my real name, no. I do tell my age and gender.

I will use my real name, but just my first name. I don't say my age. Gender is fine. If we're close enough I'll give my location. But I won't give out my workplace, because they have a pretty stringent social media policy.

I don't use my real name because it's kind of unusual, and putting that together with things like my profession (also kind of unusual) and city would lead you right to me. Any two of those things would probably lead to me, or at least narrow it down a lot.

I don't mind sharing my age and gender because I don't spend much time in places where I'd feel like I needed to lie about those things.

I’ve mentioned my age and gender, but I’ve never had any kind of social media account to link my real name to, and I hate when friends or relatives tag me in facebook photos and shit.

Oh, I'd never use my real name. I'll admit to gender and ballpark age, though.

I never share my legal name, and generally gauge the audience before revealing age (I post to places where both 'eew old person' and 'shut up, whippersnapper' are likely responses)...I'm generally pretty free with my gender, though (occasionally, I will be cagey, though).

I do smile when I see the name "Kamino Neko" other places, because I figure it's you. And yes, one of those places keeps surprising me with how ancient much older than I am some of the regulars are.

Yeah, it's almost certainly me. Especially in the places where we're the young ones. >_>
