What's with this "excuse" nonsense lately? Fic writers do not need an excuse for anything they choose to write or not write.

Wow, you sound angry.

It's not an excuse, because no excuse is needed. Nobody's obligated to write any genre. It is, however, a possible explanation for why people might feel like horror is a difficult genre to write - more difficult than other genres. When we're talking about motivation and why people don't do things, perception is important whether or not it fits with reality... or your take on reality.
