Sea monsters. The bigger the creepier. I have both an immense fascination and deep dread for things that are unreasonably gigantic and situated in the (deep) sea so I love them.

I also really like ghosts and the fae.

Seconding sea monsters. My brother made me play Ecco the Dolphin when I was about 5 and I still have nightmares about it.

My grandfather gave me an illustrated book about Greek Gods and the Odyssey when I was little and there was a part about the Scylla and Charybdis and it was so creepy! I also had a book by Joan Aiken called The Moon's Revenge and it had some really amazing illustrations of a sea dragon. That really left some impressions...

(Googling just now, I found out the illustrations were by Alan Lee. No wonder they were so impressive.)

Just Googled Alan Lee and woooow. That's some stunning stuff! I can definitely imagine them being even creepier as a kid, though.
