Wanring for animal death

(Anonymous) 2018-05-24 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I ran over my neighbor's cat this morning. I did not realize I hit it backing out of my driveway. It must have been under my car or on my wheel.

I did not know it happened until I went home for lunch. The neighbor's kid (6yo maybe?) ran up to me to tell me I killed it and they buried it. I was not even aware they had a cat (I think it was a kitten).

I told him that I was sorry. He told me it was okay because he would get a new one. Then he ran off.

First of all, I'm so sorry. <3

Secondly, that situation right there is one of the main reasons I feel like people who own cats and leave them to run around outside where something like that can happen? Shouldn't be allowed to have pets at all.

It's possible the cat was an indoor pet that got out of the house.

No, it was a cat that was let outside apparently. When I apologized to the mom she told me that she had seen it up under my car that night.

Oh, damn. Nevermind, then. :(

Oh :(

At least the kid isn't sad, but I hope he's taught by someone (probably not a parent who lets their kittens out unattended) that pet lives have value and being callous with their lives is pretty bad.

Oh no, I’m so sorry! At least the kid seemed unfazed, although maybe that’s not a good thing.

:( I'm so sorry. Obviously wasn't your fault at all, but I know it must still feel awful. Hugs for you.
