Re: It's Spring! Pros and Cons

I'm super grateful that we don't get mosquitoes down here, but bloody ants have started appearing en masse in our kitchen and I can't figure out how they're getting in. My partner kind of laughed it off and said "they're just ants," like why am I the only one concerned about dozens of tiny things crawling where we cook, just ugh no

ARRGH, yes, ants. It's also ant season. We get these wee black ones we call 'sugar ants' - they generally home in on the cat food bowl. A couple times they've found the kitchen counter and the cookie jar, omg!! HATE.

Terro! Takes care of them, totally cat, person, and eco-friendly.

Eeeugh. They are appearing really close to the cat bowls so I've been super fastidious about scrubbing the bowls/whole area even more than usual, but there's always a goddamn squad of them next time I walk in.

Will definitely be getting Terro! Thanks so much. I've been worried about spraying stuff since it's so close to the cat's feeding area so that sounds ideal. <3

The little bastards *always* find the cat dish here. One morning or afternoon I'll go over and there's the line, and there's all the little ants crawling all over the kibble.

Terro is basically borax suspended in a sugar solution. They swarm it, carry it back to the nest, and then they all die of the borax basically clogging up their innards. So - a little gruesome, i guess, but it kills the nest in about three days and you or i or a cat could eat it and not have any issues.

I'm of two minds as to whether it's the cat bowls attracting them or that one of my housemates is kind of slobbish and will just drop bits of food/drink/whatever and not clean it up. :[ I practically follow him around with a dustpan and brush.

That's actually really clever! Gruesome, yeah, but they've had their chance, lol. And it's only getting hotter here. Will grab some off Amazon tomorrow. Thank you!

OH, ew. That would make me insane.
And it's probably both. Cat food is so pungent, i'm sure it's very attractive, but any little crumb is a bonanza, so....

Good luck!

It drives me crazy. Like dude, you're not a teenager anymore, pick up your shit.
Yeah, our cat's appetite is up and down at the moment, so I worry that if he leaves anything while we're all out the house it's going to be ant central when I get back. :(
