The problem for me is that I like it a lot when villain motivations don't really make sense

Depends on why it doesn't make sense. It has to make sense that the motivation doesn't make sense (if that makes any sense). Stupid writing is just annoying. Villains who aren't paying attention and make stupid decisions for stupid reasons I'm fine with.

I think for me it gives it like... a sense of scope?

Like the villain has gotten so big that they're completely past the point of bothering to make sense

IDK, I like it a lot
