Living for thousands of years is a lot more shitty than the label on the tin implied. I already hate every other sentient living being at 40, I can't imagine what having to deal with them for 5000 years would be like.

That and, given that half the elves still in Middle-Earth in the Third Age are stupid exiled Noldor, there's a good chance that if you're an elf you're a cursed elf dealing with the sins of your father and nobody likes being denied Elf Heaven because dad did some shit back in his day. And if you're Noldorin, everybody you care about dies in some horrible tragic fashion. So now now you have 5000 years of grief on top of the immortality.

I can get where being shat on for 5000 years because GOD DAMNIT DAD would make being an elf unpleasant.
