I would expect that being the patron of a charity, or doing diplomatic tours of the commonwealth, or whatever, doesn't necessarily involve really gritty, nose-to-the-grindstone work. I'm sure that they spend a good proportion of their time doing things that are a public service in some sense, but that doesn't mean that they're working a job the same way that you or I would. Come on now, be real.

Okay, but my executive director or board president don't do what I do, either. Their jobs are to schmooze, network, make those valuable connections, oversee general things, and get the money coming in. Their jobs aren't to do my specialized work or to sit there stuffing envelopes, etc.

I'm not really claiming that royals are doing grunt work every day, but it's just not remotely accurate to assume they don't do anything or have no responsibilities.
