Mark Hammil is just the voice of the Joker, that's different than being able to physically pull off the character. Voice acting is not the same thing as acting.

No, but being able to voice act doesn't mean you can act in a movie. They are different forms of acting.

This is why I cringe when Disney gets celebrities to voice act in dubs of Miyazaki movies. Being able to act doesn't always mean you can voice act, either.

Just checking! My bad, I'm friends with a lot of actors (voice, stage, whatev), so I'm kinda...subconsciously defensive? Mebbe? Sorry about that. D:

Japan does the same thing though- using popularity over training and talent... Howl for example was a pop star from SMAP, and the star pokemon in the next Pokemon movie is going to be Crystal Kay...
Also Horikita Maki has become a popular actress amoung kids and has started voice acting this year- for Doraemon's movie and a few video games....

BTW, to feed my own curiosity, which roles/celebrities are you refering to? Patrick Stewart in Nausicca was better than the Japanese IMHO.... then again I watched it on repeat like six times for a project....

My point is that Mark Hammil can't be Joker in a film version, so they had to go with someone else. I'm just responding in general to the hordes of people who, because Hammil is TEH BEST JOKER, hate Ledger's Joker just by virtue of it not being the cartoon version.

I don't hate Ledger's Joker. In fact, I can't work up the energy to go see the movie.
